Queens Speech Debate - Baroness Lister 18 May 2021. BOTC Citizenship

Updated: May 19, 2021

In the House of Lords debate in response to the Queen's Speech, Baroness Ruth Lister of Burtersett (L), once again, raises the issue of the ongoing and historical denial of citizenship pathway for children born out-of-wedlock to British Overseas Territories fathers & mothers. The Home Secretary, Priti Patel has committed to addressing these historical anomalies in the proposed legislation outlined in the 'New Plan for Immigration, Chapter 3.' Now the public consultation has been completed, we look forward to the following: (1) seeing the public feedback, which we hope is supportive of our campaign goals. (2) viewing a bill that will form the basis of the proposed legislation. (3) a speedy passage through parliament resulting in inclusive amendments to the British Nationality Act 1981.
